Spirit Night Sets a Record

What would the Bright Future School in Rwanda have to do with Chick-fil-A? The Ambrose School Spirit Night fundraiser, of course! Ambrose has partnered with this school in Rwanda through Africa Bright Future Ministries since 2011. Spirit Night gives 10% of all dine-in purchases at the Meridian Chick-fil-A to Africa Bright Future Ministries. ABFM then uses this money to help support the needs of this important school. In addition, Bradford House helped to serve customers that night, garnering tips, which were also put toward ABFM. This year, we raised over $500! This money will go a long way to improving the lives of the precious students at Bright Future School. Thank you to everyone who came out to dine out!

Parents Go Back to School

This Thursday, September 12th, at 7:00 pm all Ambrose parents are invited to go back to school. “Back to School Night” communicates the shared goals of the school and teachers. This enables parents to work together with their teachers to make the school year a success for their student. Parents meet in the gym at 7:00 pm to hear important updates from administration and board leadership. At 7:45 pm they are excused to the classrooms to hear a brief presentation from each teacher (K – 3 will be “open house” style). These presentations help parents more clearly understand the goals and expectations for their child in the coming school year. They will also learn more details about what material will be covered during the year. Parents will be given a classroom map and schedule to help them make it to their “classes” on time. Childcare will be available from the Junior class as a fundraiser for their senior trip (please RSVP to ajohnson@theambroseschool.org).

Upper School Students Head for the Hills

For the fourth year in a row, the school year is being kicked off by the Ambrose Upper School Retreat. Bags were packed, and buses were loaded as all of our 7th – 12th grade students got ready to enjoy two days of chapel, house events, and community-building games at Quaker Hill Conference Center in McCall. The upper school retreat has three goals: 1. To promote unity in the Houses and between students and faculty; 2. To give solid biblical teaching that sets the tone for the year; 3. To deal with logistics and culture that is specific to the Ambrose Upper School. The retreat days are considered ‘school’ days because they are so critical to the functioning and the community of our upper school. All upper school students are assigned to a “house” when they enter the school. This classical system of intramural activity began in boarding schools, and provides excellent leadership and camaraderie across grades. At the retreat, 7th graders and ‘new to the school’ students learn what house they will be in, and the games begin! Houses provide a community within a community, friendly competition, and mentorship between the older and younger students. Students return from the retreat exhausted, a little dirty, but ready to begin the school year together.
