School clubs meet after school for 1 hour.
Our chess club meets weekly and competes in local chess competitions. Each year, our students add to our collection of trophies. In 2007, four students from The Ambrose School competed in the U.S. Chess Federation’s Scholastic 2007 National Junior High (K-9) Championships held in Sacramento, CA, and took 7th place nationally. One student, Elliott Sher, won the 2007 National Chess Championship, K-6, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Families who would like a little extra help with homework can join this very affordable club which meets for one hour after school for grades 1-6. Students can attend every day or selected days. Students work under the close supervision of adults and student tutors to focus on getting work done. This is particularly helpful in Latin, math, and history when students exceed their parents’ knowledge.
Our grammar school music program culminates in our annual Christmas Concert where our chime choir and children’s choirs ring in the spirit of a traditional Christmas. The Ambrose School general and performance orchestras as well as the upper school’s Devoveo Choir accompany the younger children at this event and they perform at several other events, including the spring recitals.
Orchestra – By invitation only. Typically, students do not enter until the 7th grade.
Cantavi (K-6 Select Choir) – Those students who audition in to our select children’s choir enjoy sharpening their talent to produce a sound only children can make at Christmas. This choir provides an opportunity for students to pursue excellence in music at a young age.
Chime Choir – Each year, students learn to read music, manage timing, and create a beautiful sound as a group in our chime choir. Between 10 and 20 students ring the sounds of Christmas on our handbells.
Field trips are arranged often throughout the year to various venues depending on grade. We make special effort to attend theatrical performances or other events in which our own students participate.
